Dr. Shannon McCord has worked at Texas Children’s Hospital in variety of roles, with over thirty years of experience in pediatric healthcare. She is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner, and maternal child Clinical Nurse Specialist with experience encompasses both hospital, ambulatory and private practice settings. She has served in numerous leadership roles over her career including Director of Patient Care Services, Assistant Director of Clinical Operations for BCM Obstetrics and Gynecology Services, and Assistant Director for the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Service. She currently serves as the Associate Division Director for Pediatric Wound Care Division, and Co- Director of the Pediatric Ostomy Program at Texas Children’s Hospital.

McCord received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from The University of Texas, a Master of Science in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist in maternal child nursing from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas and a post-graduate degree in the pediatric nurse practitioner program from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She completed the wound, ostomy, & continence nurse education program at The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business medical and healthcare management program. She recently graduated with a doctorate in Executive Nursing Leadership Practice from Cizek School of Nursing, University of Texas Health Science Program, Houston, Texas.

Among her professional honors, McCord has received recognition for “Outstanding Performance in Nursing” from the Texas Nurses Association, and the Good Samaritan Nursing Excellence award. As a speaker and author, she has published national and international book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journal on various pediatric nursing topics. She recently developed an international wound care core curriculum on pediatric wound care principles and practice guideline in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital Global Hope for sub-Saharan Africa. Her current clinical and research interests include pediatric skin, wound and ostomy care, quality and safety, and leadership.
