The prospect for, and experience of, having ostomy surgery can be associated with feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. Mental health challenges, issues with altered sexual health, and changed body image can occur without intervention. This session will target strategies to assist with ostomy creation adaptation across the lifespan including reflection of clinicians on whether they believe high quality of life is possible.

Learners will analyze mental health issues associated with ostomy surgery across the lifespan and possible related adaptive strategies including clinician self-reflection on personal beliefs.
