Coloplast, committed to making life easier for over 60 years

Coloplast is committed to making life easier for over 60 years.

For over 60 years, Coloplast has worked to make life easier for people with intimate healthcare needs. Our commitment has taken us far, and by working closely with healthcare professionals and those that use our products, we are never alone on our journey.

Our history

The Coloplast story began back in 1954. Elise Sørensen is a nurse, and her sister Thora had just had an ostomy operation and is afraid to go out in public, fearing that her stoma might leak. Listening to her sister’s problems, Elisa conceives the idea of the world’s first adhesive ostomy bag.

Based on Elise’s idea, Aage Louis-Hansen, a civil and engineer and plastics manufacturer, and his wife Johanna Louis-Hansen, a trained nurse, created the ostomy bag. An ostomy bag that helps Thora, and thousands of people like her, to live the life they want to lead. A simple solution that makes a difference.

Today, our strengths are reflected in each of our business areas which include Ostomy Care, Continence Care, Wound and Skin Care and Interventional Urology. We operate globally and employ about 12,000 employees.

  • SenSura® Mio Convex Range
SenSura® Mio Convex comes in three types of convexity – soft, light and deep – to fit every convex need. SenSura® Mio Convex provides a comfortable and secure convex fit with proven leakage reduction* - so your patients can bend with confidence....

  • SenSura® Mio Convex comes in three types of convexity to fit every convex need. All 3 convex solutions are designed with BodyFit Technology® and feature an elastic barrier and a unique FlexShell, which enables the barrier to provide stability around the stoma yet follow the body’s movements as it bends. SenSura Mio Convex provides a better fit for patients to help prevent leakage and skin issues.

    • Soft convex – Provides gentle support and minimal pressure (ideal for a protruding stoma or post-op abdomen), still featuring the unique technology of the FlexShell.
    • Light convex – Provides a stable, shallow convex shape while maintaining flexibility – for all-around support.
    • Deep convex – A deeper shell with the stability and pressure to help even out deeper creases or bring out a more retracted stoma, while providing 2x the flexibility of a standard convex light product.

These convex solutions are available in a variety of 1-piece or 2-piece Flex (flexible coupling) or Click (stable mechanical coupling) options to further customize the flexibility and stability of the barrier for patients' clinical needs and wearing preferences.

The fit is the difference with SenSura® Mio.

    Why Soft Convex?

Too often, people with an ostomy accept leakage as part of the “package deal” of having an ostomy. In a randomized controlled trial, SenSura® Mio Soft Convex was proven to reduce leakage in people previously using a flat product. In addition, 74% preferred Soft Convex compared with another comparable soft convex product on the market, due to its high flexibility and comfort**.

Do you hesitate to use convexity in the hospital due to the rigidity or pressure of a product? Or hear from users that it’s just not comfortable? Consider SenSura Mio Soft Convex!

  • SenSura® Mio Convex Flip
SenSura® Mio Convex Flip is the first ostomy pouching system specially designed for curves, bulges and hernias. Through BodyFit Technology® the curved star-shaped barrier fits snugly and securely over outward peristomal areas....

  • As the global leader in ostomy care, we are constantly innovating our products to reflect our understanding of users’ medical and psychological needs. In a market research study, it was found that 35% of people living with an ostomy have an outward body profile. SenSura® Mio Convex Flip was developed with these patients in mind.

Through BodyFit Technology® and the skin-friendly and elastic double-layer adhesive, SenSura Mio Convex Flip features:

    • Curved, star-shaped barrier – fits securely over curves, bulges and hernias. The petals of the star shape hug the body without creasing or folding.
    • Fit zones – at the center of the barrier provide flexibility close to the stoma. Fit zones in the outer rim grip down on the belly and follow its movements.
    • Built-in stability ring – stabilizes the center zone, so the stoma gets the necessary support and guides where to put pressure during application.

BodyFit Technology® increases the area of contact between the adhesive and the outward area* to minimize the risk of leakage. SenSura Mio Convex Flip barriers are sized to match the full variety of curves, bulges and hernias, from small to extra-large.

The fit is the difference with SenSura® Mio.

  • SenSura® Xpro
SenSura® Xpro is a line of extended wear barriers engineered to offer extra protection for people with liquid ileostomy output, urostomies and extra moisture....

  • Humidity, physical activity, and aggressive output are just some of the reasons why some patients struggle to achieve the right adhesion. Too often, lack of adhesion leads to leakage and skin issues. SenSura® Xpro has a double-layer adhesive which offers dual protection and giving your ostomy patients the freedom to do more of the activities they enjoy. Our SenSura Xpro Flex barriers are compatible with SenSura® Mio pouches – giving patients the opportunity to have a strong adhesive with the added discretion of SenSura Mio's neutral-gray textile and full-circle filter. Some of the benefits of SenSura Xpro barriers include:

    • Double-layer adhesive technology provides extra protection against loose stool or liquid drainage from the stoma
    • The barrier stays intact when exposed to aggressive output
    • Helps reduce the risk of skin irritation

Look no further than SenSura Xpro when looking for an extended-wear barrier for your patients.

  • Brava® Protective Seal
Leakage and skin irritation are common challenges for people with a stoma. A key cause is poor barrier fit – but many products designed to seal around the stoma break down, leaving sticky residues behind. Brava® Protective Seal is different....

  • People with an ostomy are commonly affected by leakage and skin irritation which is often caused by poor fit of an ostomy pouching system. By sealing the gap between the stoma and barrier - and resisting breakdown to maintain protection over time - Brava® Protective Seals can help to improve fit of the ostomy pouching system.

Each person living with an ostomy is unique, and what they might need from their supporting products can change over time as their bodies and lifestyles change. This is why Brava Protective Seal is available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, with new wide sizes that have a greater surface area for a better fit over skin with more challenges such as deeper creases or folds. This summer we are adding two extra-wide seals to complete the Brava Protective Seal range, giving your patients 12 seals of varying stoma sizes, adhesive diameters and thicknesses to choose from.

The seal is easy to shape, apply and remove, and its polymer formulation* is designed to:

    Protect against leakage

    • Creates a seal between stoma and barrier
    • Resistant to the aggressive constituents of output, so it won’t disintegrate or break down

    Supports healthy skin

    • Absorbs moisture from the skin surface
    • Removes in one piece and leaves minimal residue behind, making the skin easier to clean

The Brava Protective Seal is just one of many products in the Brava range. Brava supporting products can be used for customizing pouch fit and helping to prevent leakage or skin irritation.

*Polymer formulation relates to the structure of the adhesive and its ability to keep that structure while exposed to moisture and output.
